We are writing to invite you to join us in Santiago, Chile, on Nov 20-21, for a ground-breaking meeting about open licensing, open technologies, and the future of education in Latin America. The meeting on Nov 20 is called Latam Commons 2008: Creative Commons, Open Education, and the Public Domain. It is being co-hosted by ccLearn, the education division of Creative Commons, and Derechos Digitales. Derechos Digitales is also hosting a seminar on the public domain on Nov 21, to which everyone is welcome.
ccLearn was created to support worldwide access to open learning by reducing the legal, technological, and social barriers to the sharing and re-use of educational materials. Latam Commons 2008 is expected to include representatives of different organizations and projects in open education from throughout the Latin American region. The meeting will be a participatory gathering in which all attendees will be able to discuss a range of issues relevant to open education in Latin America, with the goal of developing a broad understanding of major education issues in the region and a focused vision of how open education and widely available educational resources can address these needs. As the workshop will be dynamic and discussion-based, we are inviting anyone interested in these issues to attend and contribute.
This meeting is open to anyone, but space is limited! This meeting is intended to catalyze conversations and projects that will continue after the meeting is over, and to build relationships among people and organizations so that we can bring our collective energies and resources to bear on common challenges for open education. Future meetings are already planned, and we look forward to seeing the progress on this global effort that grows out of Latam Commons 2008.

Escribimos para invitarte a juntarnos en Santiago de Chile los días 20 y 21 de noviembre para una innovadora reunión sobre licenciamiento abierto, tecnología abierta e el futuro de la educación en América Latina. La reunión del 20 de noviembre la hemos denominado "Latam Commons 2008: Creative Commons, Educación Abierta y el Dominio Público". Los anfitriones serán ccLearn, la división educativa de Creative Commons, y ONG Derechos Digitales. En este contexto, ONG Derechos Digitales también organizará un seminario sobre dominio público el día viernes 21 de noviembre, al cual todos están cordialmente invitados a participar.
ccLearn fue creado para apoyar acceso en todo el mundo al aprendizaje abierto a través de reducir las barreras legales, tecnológicas y sociales al compartimiento y re-utilización de materiales educacionales. Latam Commons 2008 incluirá representantes de varias organizaciones y proyectos sobre educación abierta de toda la región latinoamericana. Será una reunión de carácter participativa en la que todos los asistentes podrán tratar una amplia gama de temas relevantes relativos a la educación abierta en América Latina, con la meta de desarrollar un amplio entendimiento de los asuntos más importantes de la región y una visión enfocada de cómo la educación abierta y los recursos educacionales plenamente disponibles podrán tratar estas necesidades. Como el workshop será dinámico y basado en la discusión, esta invitación es a todos los interesados en estos asuntos para asistir y contribuir con sus ideas.
La reunión está abierta a todos, pero por un asunto técnico los cupos son limitados! Latam Commons 2008 está pensado en catalizar conversaciones y proyectos que continuarán después del fin del seminario, y también en promover lazos más fuertes entre personas y organizaciones para que podamos trabajar con toda nuestra energía colectiva en los desafíos comunes de la educación abierta. Otras reuniones ya están planeadas, y esperamos con ilusión ver el progreso en este esfuerzo global que resultará de Latam Commons 2008.
